Busy, Drained, and No Progress? It’s Not You – It’s Your Tasks | Episode 20

Have you ever looked up at the end of a long day and felt like you’ve been busy, yet somehow, you’ve gotten nowhere? Perhaps you’ve been juggling business tasks, meetings, and social commitments, but you still feel stuck—like the effort you're putting in isn’t making the impact you hoped for. If this sounds familiar, don’t worry—you’re not alone.

The Turning Point: From Busy to Productive

I completely understand how it feels to be constantly on the go but not making any real progress. I’ve been there—overwhelmed with life and business, but no matter how hard I worked, I wasn’t moving forward. Then, it hit me: I was spending 80% of my time on tasks that drained me and had little to no impact on my personal and business goals. That was the wake-up call I needed. Once I shifted my focus to high-impact, energizing tasks, I saw my productivity—and my joy—double.

The Mistake: Doing More Doesn’t Mean Doing Better

You might think that being busy means you’re being productive, but that’s not always the case. It’s easy to fall into the trap of doing everything for everyone else while ignoring what truly lights you up. You might believe you have to say yes to everything and that taking a break is a sign of laziness. The fear of falling behind or being seen as selfish can keep you stuck in this cycle.

This kind of thinking leads to self-sabotage. Overworking, people-pleasing, and neglecting self-care become the norm. It’s like being a power bank always plugged into others’ devices but never recharging yourself. Eventually, you run out of energy and can’t help anyone—not even yourself.

The Consequences of Ignoring What Matters

If you’ve been caught in this trap, you probably recognize the consequences: burnout, frustration, and a sense of being stuck. You’re not enjoying your work or life, and you’re not seeing the progress you want. But the good news is, once you realize what needs to change, everything can shift.

The Solution: Focus on What Truly Matters

The solution is simple: spend more time on tasks that truly matter to you—those that energize you and align with your goals. This means protecting your energy and focusing on high-impact actions—things that not only bring you joy but also help you move forward. You have the power to say yes or no authentically and to let go of tasks that drain you.

But what about those high-impact tasks that still feel draining? Often, the issue isn’t the task itself—it’s our mindset going into it. Do you catch yourself resisting, complaining, or wishing things were different? Maybe you long to be in a better place, with more success, ease, or clarity. It’s tough to feel motivated or fulfilled when we’re not fully present—when we’re mentally elsewhere instead of aligned with what’s right in front of us.

You can also delegate, automate, or eliminate the repetitive and energy-sapping activities. Just like a solar panel thrives when it’s positioned toward the sun, you too will create the most energy when you align with what lights you up, particularly those high-impact tasks that only you can do.

Understand that your energy is important. When you prioritize what matters and what you enjoy, you thrive. This shift in mindset helps you let go of resentment, increasing joy and productivity along the way. When you take care of yourself and focus on what truly matters, your progress will happen faster, and you’ll feel more fulfilled in the process.

Client Testimonials: Real-Life Transformations

Clients who’ve embraced this approach have experienced incredible results. They started focusing on small actions that created real progress in their business. They learned to protect their energy and peace—no longer feeling exhausted, but genuinely excited about their work and life.

Quick Action Steps You Can Try

Here’s how you can begin making the shift in your own life:

  • List Your Tasks – Prioritize High-Impact Over Low-Impact Activities: Start by listing all your tasks and categorize them into high-impact and low-impact. High-impact tasks contribute directly to your goals, while low-impact tasks keep you busy without making progress. Focus on what truly moves the needle.
  • Highlight Your Energy Sources – Identify What Energizes vs Drains You: Notice which tasks energize and motivate you versus those that leave you feeling exhausted. Energizing tasks align with your strengths and passions, while draining ones deplete your mental and physical energy. This awareness helps you focus on what fuels you.
  • Schedule High-Impact, Energizing Tasks Daily – One for Business, One Personal: Set aside time daily for at least one high-impact task for your business and one personal task that brings you joy. This will keep you motivated and productive, ensuring both personal growth and professional progress.
  • Delegate Low-Impact and Draining Tasks: Delegate tasks that aren’t essential or that drain your energy. If someone else can handle them, let go. This frees up your time for more meaningful work.
  • Delete Low-Impact, Draining Tasks – Eliminate Time Wasters: Remove tasks that are both low-impact and draining. These tasks waste your time and energy without contributing to your goals. Freeing yourself from them will allow you to focus on what truly matters.
