However, recent research warns that the relentless chase for achievement, when not tempered with balance, can lead to unforeseen challenges.
Understanding the Impact of Values
Ever found yourself tirelessly striving for better, setting one goal after another without pause? Well, you’re not alone. While valuing achievement isn't inherently wrong, a recent study, featuring 184 participants from diverse backgrounds, suggests that problems arise when this pursuit overshadows other values.
In the comprehensive study spanning the European Union, the United Kingdom, India, Turkey, and beyond, participants underwent assessments measuring values, mood, mental health, and stress levels over nine days. The findings revealed a nuanced connection between specific values and positive well-being.
Three values emerged as predictors of well-being:
Surprisingly, only hedonism was linked to a reduced risk of depression and anxiety. Striving for achievement didn't directly correlate with increased happiness but emerged as a byproduct of positive well-being.
