The Human and the Being: Embracing Both Sides of You | Episode 9

At first, I hesitated to share this. What if people couldn’t relate? What if it felt too deep or too corny? But then I realized—this very topic transformed my life from constant fear and self-doubt to a place of peace, wholeness, and self-acceptance. So, here it goes.

The Never-Ending Search for More

Imagine waking up every morning with a nagging feeling that something is missing. You have a good job, a loving family, and supportive friends, yet there’s still an unshakable sense of emptiness. No matter how much you achieve, it never feels like enough. Many of us experience this—feeling like we need to do more, accomplish more, and have more. Fear holds us back—fear of failure, rejection, and what others will think. Even with faith in God, true peace and joy can feel out of reach. Our minds are constantly racing with worries, unable to fully enjoy the simple moments in life. The critical voices, both internal and external, seem endless. How can we ever be happy if negativity dominates our thoughts?

This is one of the biggest mistakes that people make: focusing solely on the ups and downs of human life while forgetting their spiritual nature. When this happens, life can feel overwhelming, filled with stress, emptiness, and an endless search for fulfillment that remains just out of reach.

My Turning Point

Like many others, I reached a point where I no longer wanted to suffer. Struggles with mental health led me to explore personal development. Along the way, I realized that I had been defining myself only by my roles, achievements, and hardships. But the truth is, we are both human—navigating the complexities of life—and spiritual beings with an innate sense of peace, wisdom, and connection to something greater. Understanding this helped me break free from stress and feel whole again.

The Human Side and the Being Within

As a human, you have a name, background, job, and roles. You have a history, a physical body, relationships, achievements, and possessions. You experience emotions and are shaped by what others say and do to you. This part of you is always changing, prone to comparison, and never truly complete. It is temporary, unstable, and tied to the pleasures and pains of life.

Beyond the human experience, you are also a being—a deeper, unchanging essence. This part of you is complete, equal to others, and permanently connected to something greater. It is stable, indestructible, and naturally peaceful. Moreover, these qualities don’t disappear—they are merely forgotten beneath the noise of a busy mind.

A Clearer Understanding

Every person carries both human limitations and a deep inner wisdom. Your body functions intelligently without conscious effort—your heart beats, wounds heal, and growth happens naturally. Instincts guide you, emotions give depth to your experiences, and positive human attributes like joy, curiosity, and a sense of humor bring color to life. These qualities exist in everyone, yet many of us become disconnected from them due to external pressures and self-doubt. When we reconnect with our natural intelligence and inner peace, we begin to see that our worth isn’t determined by what we achieve but by the simple fact that we exist.

One of the experiences that made me see this more clearly was through my daughter, Sophie, who has Down’s syndrome. While she faces limitations in the human aspect, her being is perfect. She radiates happiness, peace, and joy, becoming a source of light to everyone around her. Despite what society may label as "disabilities," she embodies a pure, unshakable presence that reminds me of what truly matters. Watching her exist in such a natural state of joy made me realize that our essence is not about what we accomplish or how we compare to others—it’s something far deeper and unshakable within us all.

Honoring Both Sides of Yourself

Recognizing both your human and spiritual sides is key to living a balanced life. If you only focus on the human experience, life will feel full of problems and disappointments, never providing lasting joy. But if you embrace your spiritual nature, you will experience less fear and more peace, happiness, and contentment.

At the same time, being human comes with responsibilities. Taking care of your health, working toward goals, fulfilling duties, and helping others are all important. Action has its place. If there’s something to be done, do it—not as a means to an end, but as a meaningful act in itself. True fulfillment comes not from reaching a specific outcome but from being present in the process. Remember, who you are is already complete and worthy, regardless of your achievements.

Inner and Outer Purpose

Your inner purpose is simply to be present. Your outer purpose includes your roles, responsibilities, goals, and dreams. Achieving external success without inner peace leads to emptiness. If you base your self-worth on wealth or accomplishments, you will always be chasing something in the future, never allowing yourself to feel complete in the present. And if your goals never materialize, does that mean your life was meaningless? Of course not.

Living as a Whole Human Being

To truly feel whole and live with purpose, you must acknowledge both sides of yourself. You can either continue seeing only your human side and remain stuck in stress and dissatisfaction, or you can embrace both your human and spiritual nature to create a life filled with tranquility, resilience, and deep fulfillment.

When you integrate both aspects of yourself, life’s pleasures become richer, challenges become opportunities for growth, and a profound sense of peace stays with you no matter where life takes you.
